African Catholic Mission Aims and Objectives

a) Unite all African Catholics in Britain by encouraging them to form national Associations and Chaplaincies and Parish Associations and other appropriate groups in their respective national communities and parishes.

b) Establish and maintain strong links with the various African Catholic Communities in Britain.

c) Provide a forum for mutual and spiritual support; pastoral care and dissemination of information, and to liaise with the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales and the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM)

d) Liaise with the Church throughout Africa (it will serve as an important contact with the Church in Britain).

e) Encourage African Catholics (clergy and laity) to participate fully in the life of the Church at the parish, diocesan, national and international levels.

f) Create awareness of the Catholic liturgical worship in Africa which gives more meaningful expression to the Christian message in the African context.

g) Act as a more formal structure for African Catholics in Britain to meet and share ideas.

h) Encourage communion and fraternity among the African clergy in Britain (whether diocesan or religious) on the basis of the Sacrament of Holy Orders and by particular bonds of apostolic, charity, ministry and fraternity.

African Mission Practical Objectives

a) Alert the African Catholics in the workings of the Church especially, vocations to the priesthood, diaconate and religious life.

b) Arrange African liturgical worships, and cultural activities, thus creating awareness of Catholic liturgical worship in Africa and African cultural heritage.

c) Organise fund-raising events to benefit works of charity in Africa.

d) Arrange retreats, pilgrimages, conferences, exhibitions, meetings, lectures, symposia, seminars, discussions and other appropriate gatherings and functions.

e) Engage in religious and social activities that will help to develop and advance the work of the African Mission.  

f) Establish an African Catholic Centre for community spirituality, retreats and as a prayer house to enable the African Catholic Community to seek counsel, friendship, spiritual and formational assistance and encouragement to share their experiences and needs.
